NHS Treatments

You can view our NHS Treatment options below as well as information on each treatment:
Below are the treatments available to our NHS Patients and information about each treatment.

If you would like more information on any of our treatment options or to discuss payment options, please contact us and one of our team would be happy to help.

Examinations

NHS patients will get one dental exam arranged on an assessment basis by the dentist, appointments will be arranged up to 24 monthly.
This allows us to see if you have any dental problems that need addressed and helps you keep your mouth healthy. Leaving problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it's best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether.

Hygiene Services

We offer Hygiene Services provided by our Dental Hygiene Therapist, a registered dental care professional who is specially trained in preventative dental care and will be happy to provide patients with the information on preventative care to prevent a number of dental issues.
As well as hygiene services our dental therapist will also be providing list of different treatments such as fillings and fissure sealants to both adults and children.

Please note the hygienist will remain a private service but will provide some support in the provision of NHS care.

Sealants

At Houston Dental we love caring for smiles and our team offer several services to protect you and your little ones teeth from damage and decay. Dental Sealants are perfect for sealing any holes or grooves in teeth that may trap food particles.

The process is straight forward and involves placing a tough material over the tooth surface and hardening it with a light in a matter of minutes. There is no discomfort involved with this procedure and it will prevent further decay if good oral hygiene practices are maintained.

Dental Restorations (Fillings)

We offer Dental Restoration treatments or fillings to our patients. The most common reason you would need a filling is when tooth decay has caused a hole (cavity) to form on a tooth surface. If you don't get a filling, the cavity will get worse. It may cause pain and then an abscess . This may lead to more severe problems, such as bone loss.

We want to prevent as much discomfort for our patients as possible by providing fillings for our NHS patients. These will be long lasting Silver fillings, but if you would prefer a white filling for aesthetic purposes these are available at an added cost.

Dental Extractions

We can offer dental extractions. If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, we will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, though, there is too much damage for the tooth to be repaired. In this case, the tooth needs to be extracted. This may also be the case for teeth in the way of others coming through. A very loose tooth may also require extraction if it can't be saved.

Childrens Treatment & Childsmile

We offer Childsmile to all Children registered with the practice. We work closely with Childsmile staff who in turn work with your childs school or nursery to ensure your child is provided the best dental care and guidance.

When you bring your child along to Houston Dental our dental team will:

• Give you information on how teeth grow and develop & carry out regular checks to ensure your childs teeth and gums are healthy
• Offer guidance on their dental care
• Demonstrate and explain good brushing habits
• Promote good habits

• Provide advice on weaning and healthy dietary habits

On your first visit you may see the Dental Nurse who will advise you on how to keep your childs teeth healthy and to provide you with advice on teething, weaning and the correct foods to protect your childs teeth.

From 18 months your dentist will check your childs teeth at least once a year and provide any necessary treatments. This will help your child get assimilated with visiting the dentist from an early age.   From the age of 2 our dentists can provide your child with Flouride Varnish and Fissure Sealants should they require them.

Root Canal Treatment

We offer root canal treatment which is used to treat infection at the centre of a tooth. To treat the infection in the root canal, we need to remove any bacteria present either by removing the tooth by Dental Extraction or by removing the bacteria itself. After the bacteria have been removed, the root canal will be filled and the tooth sealed with a filling or crown.

In most cases, the inflamed tissue at the end of the tooth will heal naturally. Before having root canal treatment, you will usually be given a local anaesthetic. This means the procedure shouldn't be painful, and should be no more unpleasant than having a filling. Root canal treatment is usually successful.

Crown & Bridges

Both Crowns and most Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto your existing teeth or dental implants.

A crown is an artificial tooth used to cover and strengthen a damaged tooth or to improve the structure or function of a tooth. Crowns can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth if you require but gold and metal alloy Crowns are also available. Crowns are recommended to replace a large filling when there is not enough tooth remaining or to protect future damage to a tooth. They can also be used to attach a bridge, to cover an implant or  a discoloured tooth.

Bridges are usually recommended if you are missing any teeth as any gaps in your teeth will force other teeth to become misaligned, eventually making your bite unnatural and uncomfortable as well as possibly causing gum disease and joint issues.

Dentures

Dentures have been the main method of tooth replacement for hundreds of years due to their reliability and ease of use. At Houston Dental Surgery we can provide you with customised dentures designed to fit securely and comfortably within your mouth to transform your smile.

Full Dentures are designed to replace either the entire bottom or top arch of the teeth and when worn they will maintain their place within your mouth through natural suction or using a dental adhesive for the added confidence.   Dentures are designed to allow you to eat, speak, smile and laugh with confidence.

Partial Dentures may be offered for patients who would prefer to maintain the natural healthy teeth they have left. They can be designed to your needs and be placed into your mouth using clips or brackets.

Practicing good oral hygiene with Dentures is very important and they should be cleaned each night and stored in water or a denture solution when sleeping.
